The class in detail

The class that started the studio

This is the one we tell everyone to start with. The hand-tied spiral is the foundation of almost all floristry — get it right once and every arrangement you make afterwards gets easier. Amelia runs it the way she learned it on event jobs: fast demo first, then your bench, your stems, your pace.

You'll work with whatever the market had that morning — roses, ranunculus, snapdragons, whatever's peaking. We teach conditioning, stem selection, the spiral itself, and the wrapping that makes a bouquet look shop-bought instead of 'I tried'.

Curious about other classes? The dried flower workshop uses similar mechanics with materials that last a year, and the centrepiece class builds on this spiral for table work.

  • Runs: Every Saturday 10:00am, most Thursdays 5:30pm, and one Sunday a month
  • Guarantee: Free reschedule up to 72 hours before class — full details on our refunds page

Student mid-way through building a spiral hand-tied bouquet

Step by step

Two and a half hours, six stages

01

Flowers 101 — 15 min

What's on your bench today, why those stems, and how to condition them so they last twice as long as a supermarket bunch.

02

Prep & strip — 20 min

De-thorning, stripping lower leaves, cutting on the angle. Unglamorous, but it's where most home bouquets go wrong.

03

The spiral demo — 15 min

Amelia builds a full bouquet slowly at the big bench, narrating each stem. Everyone films this bit on their phone.

04

Your build — 75 min

Same stems, your choices. We circulate constantly — a wandering spiral is normal, and fixable. Coffee appears halfway.

05

Tie, trim, wrap — 20 min

Bind point, stem trim, tissue and wrap so it travels. The finishing ten minutes is what separates 'nice' from 'wait, you made that?'.

06

Photos & line-up — 5 min

Everyone's bouquet goes on the bench for the final line-up. Twelve people, twelve completely different bouquets.

Bouquet class FAQ

It's designed for exactly you. About 8 out of 12 people in a typical class have never done this. The spiral looks fiddly for the first 20 minutes, then it clicks — that's the bit everyone remembers.

Always. Wrapped, ribboned and conditioned to survive the trip. It'll last a week-plus if you follow the recipe card we send home.

12+ is fine with an adult alongside (secateurs are sharp). Younger kids do better in our school-holiday family sessions — ask us on the contact page.

Yep — the Duo Pass (NZ$175) covers two seats here and is our most-bought gift. Dollar vouchers from NZ$50 work too. See the prices page.

Saturdays sell out about two weeks ahead in spring and summer. Weeknight classes usually have seats a few days out.

Saturday's bench has your name on it

Twelve seats, one Saturday, and a bouquet you'll photograph on the walk to the car park. NZ$95 all-in.
